主體段落是整篇文章中重要的組成部分，Introduction和Conclusion這兩段只是文章完整性的配套設(shè)施而已。因此，寫(xiě)好主體段落才是essay writing的關(guān)鍵。

主體段落的主要功能(main purpose)是:Carry the main information of the whole essay,including specific evidence. A new Body paragraph introduces a new point, theme, or angle, and differentmain ideas are divided into different body paragraphs.

[主體段包含各種具體的事實(shí)和例證，每個(gè)主體段都有一個(gè)觀點(diǎn)、主題或角度，不同的主題應(yīng)該用不同的主體段來(lái)討論。]其實(shí)就是所謂的theme，幾乎所有文章的主體段都是按不同focus或不同觀點(diǎn)(其實(shí)也是議論文的不同focus)或角度去分段。

一個(gè)主體段落可以由三個(gè)部分組成:主題句(one topic sentence)、支持句((2-3 supportingideas)和拓展句(no more than 5 developing sentences)。
